A Love Note from the Lonely Earth to the Moon

Among the stars, brilliant phase changes.

Ever elliptic, rarely ecliptic, always radiant.

-

Reflecting the light I can’t see directly,

I would blind.

-

Why don’t you come closer?

Why can’t you come closer?

-

It’s just the way things are, you say.

-

I think someday, you will slow down.

I think you will start to see

What you have passed so many times

I have always been there, you know.

-

I know you will slow,

And you will spiral.

At first just a bit, but soon so much more.

You will slow and slow until you start to fall.

-

I have prepared for your epiphany

With soft pillow seas,

And lush forests of green,

And industry so clean.

-

The apple does fall, as does the moon.

Apple from tree, skies to down me.

Once you slow, surely you’ll see,

Why you were falling in the first place.

Why my love made gravity.
